    Would an Avid Mechanical fit?

  • shedfire 11:51 am on July 14, 2009 | #

It’ll fit (with a 180mm) but requires a degree of fettling. Not ideal.
    Wasn’t intended to, btw.

Does that apply to shimano mechanicals too?

  • shedfire 1:05 pm on July 14, 2009 | #

    Yup. Probably moreso. They’re huge.

Have you a close up picture of the disc mount with the caliper attached?

hmm not looking to good, mind if i send you a photo so you can give me your opinion?

  • shedfire 7:27 pm on July 14, 2009 | #

I have a Shimano cable disc brake here. On the back of my daughters bike. It won’t fit.

  • wors 7:37 pm on July 14, 2009 | #

ok ta, new brakes it is!

  • wors 9:17 pm on July 14, 2009 | #

sorry to be a pain, but what brakes do fit?

  • shedfire 9:44 pm on July 14, 2009 | #

normal, hydraulic ones. not ones pulled with wires.

  • wors 10:05 pm on July 14, 2009 | #

    nowt wrong with cables

  • god 9:23 am on July 15, 2009 | #

I know which I’d choose out of mechanical or budget hydraulic disc brakes – mechanical every time for ease of use, tweakability and consistency.

Not that it makes much difference to me as I’ll be mostly kitting a new blue pig out with new stuff anyway.

Maybe something to bare in mind for a future “mass market” Ragley 100 – 120mm travel frame though – or are you fundamentally opposed to the idea on engineering grounds? …just interested.

  • shedfire 9:27 am on July 15, 2009 | #

I really don’t know if we’ll be doing a “mass market” Ragley frame to be honest. I’d never say never, but not in any rush.

I have a new dropout design for the singlespeed frame we’re working on. That might work with mechanicals, but that’d be by accident than by (intentional) design.

  • god 9:48 am on July 15, 2009 | #

Shame about short travel frame. I think you’d clean up, especially when the Ragley brand establishes itself. But you know the market and where your interest and heart lies. 🙂

  • shedfire 9:49 am on July 15, 2009 | #

Oh we’ll be doing a short travel frame. Just not a mass market one.

  • god 9:58 am on July 15, 2009 | #

ahh, I get ya. my bad. I termed it “mass market” simply because most folk (the masses) tend to do general runabout xc on 100 – 120mm travel forks as opposed to bouncing over rock gardens and drops on 140mm travel forks. Cool, I think you’ll do really well with that.

  • col 12:44 pm on July 15, 2009 | #

When will short travel frames be made?

  • shedfire 2:22 pm on July 15, 2009 | #

3-4 months I’d have thought. Need to nail some specifics down.

  • col 5:57 pm on July 15, 2009 | #

Will their be steel shot travel and will there be size 14inch frames available.Cheers
